Crank The Heat

We're all for the apple-a-day advice, but to ward off fruit fatigue, try doctoring it up with some natural sweetness. Apple slices dipped in honey make a great snack, as do flavored applesauce packs like Mott's Healthy Harvest. But turn up the heat, and the modest apple will reveal a whole new, seductive side. Warm yourself on a chilly night with this speedy and satisfying baked apple recipe, courtesy of dessert chef Phyllis Fox: Core a Rome or Cortland apple, peeling about an inch of skin off the top. Place in a baking dish with half an inch of water. Drizzle some honey on top, and bake at 375 degrees until soft. Sprinkle with cinnamon, or top with a scoop of fat-free vanilla ice cream.
