Sleight Of Hand

It's amazing how many pounds can magically appear after you go a little nuts at the buffet. Next time, pull a David Blaine and outfox your cravings with some clever tricks of perception. Fix your dinner on a smaller plate -- it keeps portion sizes in perspective. A full salad plate will appear heartier than a dinner plate with gaping space that begs to be filled. Also, remember that you're entitled to seconds, no need to overload on firsts. Take half of what you think you might eat. You can always go back for more, but odds are you'll be satisfied with what you have. Don't you love when that happens? And remember, portion sizes are arbitrary. Your magic wand -- er, knife -- wields the power to slice calories and fat in half -- or thirds! So go ahead: Split a slice of cake with your friend(s). You might not share your secrets, but you can share your dessert.
